Campus Recruitment at Amrita University

Been a hectic two days, been involved in campus recruitment in Amrita University.

First day when I came to the campus, just fell in love with that, looked very scenic amidst hills. More surprise was waiting in the form of a guest house, the facilities can even make a good star resort to shame. Missed my wife and daughter so much. They too would have loved this place.

On Monday, at 9 am, we started with the preplacement talk and was well received by the students. Post which, the students appeared for a written test. In the evening, though it went late, completed the group discussion and selected candidates for the personal interview the next day. It was a good experience to hear the point of view of the kids on the group discussion topics. Generation Gap . . . Lol

Again, an early morning start at 9 am ;-). Had to dust all my rusted C and C++ knowledge, to quiz these young people. Had a give and take experience, educated or got educated . . .

Completed the formalities at 4 pm, saw happy students and sad ones too.

Not to forget, we were pampered with some very good vegetarian food.

Sizzlers in Chennai....

My wife and I used to love sizzlers, since our Pune days. Thanks to amazing places like Zamu's etc. Ever since we came to Chennai, we have been deprived of the same, as we did not find a good sizzler restaurant in this lovely city.

But now we have found two good places, just not one, serving good sizzlers. One in 'Tangerine' in Alwarpet, where they serve both vegetarian and non vegetarian sizzlers. I had a chicken grill sizzler and I was quite satisfied. My wife had a vegetarian one and she was not impressed. Though, we had to wait for sometime to get the table, as it was crowded. The hospitality and attention was super impressive, which is certain to make you visit again.

Second one is 'New Yorker' on Nungambakkam High Road. This is a pure vegetarian place, was hesitating to go there as it is in a busy place. But, when we visited, I was glad to find good parking, including valet facilities. The restaurant was neat and ambience was quite nice. We were able to get a table easily. They not only serve but a variety of cuisines. As we went for sizzlers, just stuck to that, though the Italian menu and the Jain option was impressive.

We had the Italian Sizzler with penne and mushroom pepper sauce and it was quite tasty and nice. The time taken to serve the food was also agreeable. We also ordered the 'Nachos' with American cheese sauce, which again was good. The Lebanese Sizzler with Falafel was also quite good.

I enjoyed visting both these places, cost and quality were impressive, will certainly visit again and would highly recommend them for a good meal.

Vinaya Anjaneyar Swamy

My parents have not been keeping well for sometime, they been going through medical treatment.

Though my mom has taken it boldly, atleast poses so ;-), Dad has been quite bothered about it, he has to be.

So, one of my colleague had advised me to take them to the Veetriruntha Perumal Temple in Thirumazhisai in the outskirts of Chennai.

I am blogging this from just outside the temple, the 'Vinaya Anjaneyar' here is ' Doctor's Doctor'. Just had a good darshan and pleasant relief in my Dad's face. Some things VISA cannot buy. :-)

Recruitment Drive.... MindTree Limited....

Writing from Radisson Hotel in Chennai, I am here for a recruitment drive on behalf of my company. I am part of the panel, which does the second round of interview. Ita already 3 pm and I have just met one candidate.

The turnout for the interview was pretty good, but the shortlists were very less. During an informal chat with the Technical panels, realised that there expectations were not too much.

So be the case, why is that many people are not getting through. In my opinion, I feel that the following are the reasons:

1) Lack of preparation
2) Inability to talk about their current project, which infact is the result of not knowing the big picture of their project
3) Desperateness in leaving the current organisation
4) Little enthusiasm in the product they are currently working on.

Resuming ....

It's been a while, since I typed my thoughts. Have many reasons, but everything would be excuses.

Now found a way to blog using my phone, so I am sure that I would not disappoint myself once again.
